I am so excited to start on this Home Team Mama journey with you all! On this blog, my hope is to share all the helpful tips and tricks to help with navigating pregnancy, labor and delivery, newborn care, postpartum anxiety/depression, and transitioning into the role of working mama.
I met my husband in April of 2016 at an old bar on the west side of Indianapolis. This bar hosts up and coming country singers for concerts. Artists like Eric Church, Luke Bryan, Cole Swindell, and Chase Rice all got their start at 8 Seconds Saloon. We were both at a Jon Langston concert and just happened to end up next to each other in the crowd. After talking, we realized we had probably been at 50 or more of the same concerts and shows over the last few years. It didn't take us long at all to hit it off.
I was in my first year of teaching middle school special education at the time, and Nathan was in his 4th year of teaching middle school social studies. As we talked, we realized how much we had in common between working and also coaching. I had just finished my first year as the 7th grade girls basketball coach while Nathan coached high school football and middle school basketball and baseball. After just a few months of dating, we decided to move in together and the rest is history.
I never knew I would find someone SO compatible with all of my likes and interests, and also someone who pushed me to continue taking on different roles as coach or club sponsor in the school setting as he was doing the same in his school. Our schedules have been BEYOND crazy over the last four years, but we wouldn't have it any other way.
Nathan and I were married in June of 2018 in front of all our family and friends on quite possibly the hottest day of the year. Nathan's suit jacket was SOAKED by the end of our short 10 minute ceremony. I still find myself apologizing to our friends for making them sit outside so I could have my outdoor ceremony. Since then, we've continued to teach and coach in our respective positions at our schools and also add other coaching duties to our plates. Through it all, we've managed to keep our marriage and love for each other at the center of it all.
In November 2018, I found out I was pregnant with our first little one. Even during my pregnancy, Nathan encouraged me to continue teaching and coaching as much as I wanted to. And so the idea behind Home Team Mama started to come to life. Through coaching basketball and golf, I have always had the team player mindset and have tried to instill that in all the players I have coached over the years. That is no different in our house. My husband and I always say we are a team, and together we make the best team. My husband and I have both coached countless players in numerous sports over the years, but there is nothing that is more important than our HOME TEAM.
I am excited to start on this journey and hope that you all can take even just a little bit of advice from me as I share my story. I look forward to beginning this journey with you all!
